GPLC - enhance performance and accelerate recovery
18-10-2011
Glycine Propionyl - L-Carnitine (GPLC) is made through the bonding of Propionyl-L-Carnitine and Glycine. The compound has excited international attention via claims relating to its’ potency as an agent for pre-exercise stimulation and post exercise recovery.
Propionyl-L-Carnitine supports metabolism via being more readily absorbed by muscle cells of the heart. This is consistent with a list of qualities enhancing either aerobic or anaerobic exercise performance. Glycine is an amino acid present in the central nervous system and acts as a neurotransmitter, thus boosting Propionyl-L-Carnitine absorption and effect.
Research confirms both aerobic and anaerobic performance improvement in untrained men and women when administered varying amounts of GPLC. Similarly, male subjects with a history of resistance training are said to have shown elevated nitric oxide levels using GPLC. Raised nitric oxide levels may assist protein and synthesis via boosting amino acid delivery to working muscles - boosting the ability to exercise harder and longer.
GPLC may also enhance performance through shuttling fatty acids into the mitochondria for conversion into energy. This supports claims relating to the status of GPLC as a fat burner, eliminating the need for pre exercise carbohydrate intake to provide energy. Studies reinforced the appearance that GPLC reduced lactic acid accumulation and oxidative stress – improving the capacity to accelerate recovery.
